Cards

Bin card
Bin card

A card is needed to open the bins.

Lost cards can be replaced at OSGRE:[7]

When moving homes, return your current card. It is linked to the address, not the individual. Request a new card for your new residence at OSGRE.[8]

Your card gives you access to:[9]

  • All smart bins in Girona (regardless of neighborhood)
  • Temporary waste areas
  • Emergency disposal points
  • Recycling centers

More info: City waste portal

How to get a card

If you don’t have your card yet for the smart bins, pick it up at one of these locations:

Location Address Opening hours
Office for Sustainability Carrer dels Ciutadans, 4 Monday to Friday: 10 am – 2 pm
OSGRE Fontajau Carrer d’Antoni Varés i Martinell, 7 Monday: 9 am – 2 pm, 4 pm – 8 pm
Friday: 9 am – 2 pm

You can also call 972 485 591 or email osgre@ajgirona.cat.

How to open the bins

Tap your card on the bin and you should hear a click, indicating the bin has unlocked.

If your bin doesn’t open:

  • Test your card on another bin to find out if you card or the bin isn't working.
  • If the card fails, visit the OSGRE office with your ID or waste tax document to get a replacement.
  • If the bin is faulty, report it to OSGRE.[10]

If a bin is full:

  • try flattening items like boxes or packaging
  • use the next nearest bin

Bin schedules

Smart bins are accessible between 7:00 AM and 10:00 PM daily.[11]

All bins follow a common collection calendar,[12] shown below and also available here: Collection calendar PDF
