Girona is famous for many things. Nightlife isn't one of them.

Platea[edit]

Platea is Girona’s oldest nightclub, dating back to 1992.[1] It was built on the site of Teatro Albéniz, a theatre that was demolished to make way for a cinema complex.[1] The only part preserved from the original theatre is what today forms the club itself — including its stage, curtains, and other theatrical structures that give Platea its distinctive atmosphere.[1]

Platea has become a landmark for generations of locals in Girona: a place where, as its website says, “our parents met, our children celebrated their student days, and every week people from Girona and surrounding towns come for a drink.”[2]

Univers/Euphoria[edit]

Sala Univers (also known as Euphoria?) is a nightclub[4] on the outskirts of Girona, near Decathlon and Leroy Merlin.

La Paca (originally Sala del Cel)[edit]

La Paca is a nightclub a 10-minute walk north from the centre of Girona. The nightclub overlooks one of Girona's four rivers, the River Ter.

La Paca has a long history. It was founded in 1982 by Josep Pérez and first known as Sala del Cel.[5] In the 1980s, it was a nightclub and live music venue, hosting Catalan and Spanish rock bands such as Sopa de Cabra, Els Pets, and Kitsch.[5] In the 1990s, it became one of Europe’s most innovative electronic music clubs.[5] International DJs such as Jeff Mills, Laurent Garnier, and Cristian Vogel played here during its peak years.

In 2008, the Pacha group acquired the club.[6] Pacha began renovations without the necessary permits, and the City Council temporarily halted the works.[6] After submitting a project and paying a fine, they were allowed to continue, with a renovation budget of around €24,000.[6] The club finally reopened as Pacha Girona in 2009.[5]

Since then. the club has changed its name more often than Prince. Here are some of its short-lived identities:[7]

  • 2015: Club V.I.P. Girona
  • 2016: El Claustre, a nightclub with five rooms (one named El Cel as a nod to its past).[5]
  • 2017: SOHO Girona
  • 2019: Salseo
  • 2023: La Célèbre
  • 2024: La Paca

The building itself sits on historic ground: until 1926, this was the site of the Church of Our Lady of the Pillar, dating back to the 16th century.[5]

La Bohème[edit]

La Primera[edit]

La Mirona[edit]

Club in Salt. Big venue for concerts, tribute bands, and techno nights.

Tips on clubbing[edit]

  • Most clubs don't warm up before midnight, so plan to arrive late.
  • Dress smart-casual to stay on the safe side across all venues.
