Girocòmic

From Guide to Girona
Girocòmic, Girona's comic convention

Girocòmic is Girona's annual comic convention. It is held in Fira de Girona over a weekend in October. Expect stalls, talks, workshops, and food trucks. And Funko Pops. A LOT of Funko Pops.

Children under 4 enter Girocòmic for free.

For a larger comic-con, there is Comic Barcelona (also known as Salón Internacional del Cómic de Barcelona). It began in 1981 and is held every year in April.[1] (@comic_bcn)

History of Girocòmic[edit]

Girocòmic was first held in 2016[2], aiming to fill the gap left by the defunct Torroella de Montgrí Comic Festival.[3]. Reviewers described the event as disappointing.[3] The event received little publicity, lacking even its own website and relying solely on a Facebook page.[3] The first edition of Girocòmic was also held alongside two unrelated fairs — the sixth edition[4] of FiraTast (a food festival) and the 23rd edition[4] of Interquilt (a textile fair).[3] A €6 ticket granted access to all three.[3]

Girocòmic has taken place every year since, except in 2020, when it was cancelled due to COVID.

Pasarel·la cosplay[edit]

The most popular event is the cosplay competition (pasarel·la cosplay), which takes place on Saturday evening. Participants must sign up in advance at https://www.girocomic.cat/ca/cosplay/passarella-cosplay.[5] Only handmade cosplays are allowed (store-bought items must be under 30% of the costume).[5] On the Saturday, each participant meets the judges and has 10–15 seconds on stage.[5] Prizes (€150 each) are Best Armor, Best Craftsmanship, Best Characterization, and Special Award.[5] Participating in the cosplay competition also gives you free entry to the Girocòmic.[5]

Children can enter the pasarel·la cosplay infantil, which doesn't grant free entry to Girocòmic, but every kid who enters does get a bag of prizes.
