König

From Guide to Girona

König is a chain of restaurants. It is extremely popular, often with long queues outside. A common phrase among young adults in Girona is "Fem un König?" ("Shall we go to König?"). Their menu is huge, with over 100 items to choose from, including tapas, salads, tortilla, croquettes, patatas bravas, sandwiches, bagels, focaccia, and hot dogs. They are best known for their burgers, which only cost €5-8. We recommend number 11 (Hamburguesa, confitura de tomate, sobrasada, rúcula, huevo y cebolla caramelizada)[1].

König has four locations in Girona:

  • König Girona Nord at Camí de la Font de l'Abat 23, near OCine (which makes it a nice place to eat before or after seeing a film)
  • König 2 at Plaça Independència 2
  • König Migdia at Carrer Migdia 7
  • König Sandwiches at Carrer Calderers 16, next to Sant Fèlix cathedral and the cul de la Lleona statue

All Königs have an informal vibe. The service is fast, the food is good, and the prices are cheap. It's like an upmarket version of McDonalds, if the food at McDonalds was actually good.

König is one of the only places in Girona that's open every day of the year, including Christmas Day (on Christmas Day, it opens at 6 PM).

The word König means "king" in German. Why the name of the restaurant is in German and not Catalan, we don't know.

Konig began in Girona in 1973.[2]
